Newly Enlightened On your very thought - I remember an overweight elder leaning heavily on the rostrum and declaring, "If you brothers think you can get through Armageddon by laying in bed on a Sunday morning, you had better think again. You will be held responsible for every life you could have saved. For God’s sake get out of bed!”

Copyright of forum post material
by Qcmbr injust a quick question.
a forum owner has posted that they are willing to get litigious if material from their forum is copied.
in the light that members of that forum regularly post the same question verbatim in both forums ( including the site owner who has stated their copyright claims) i just wanted to understand what legal grounds we view posts.

Having published various works I had to look very closely at copyright law in regard to quoting and sought advice from a publisher. All writing is automatically copyrighted and the property of the author. An entire work cannot be posted, but a small portion of an entire work can be posted provided the author is credited. Quoting others work is permissible under the defence of ‘fair use.’
Paraphrasing in ones own style is permissible because copyright seeks to protect the authors style not the actual information. Once someone publicly shows their work they cannot use privacy laws to stop others disusing, quoting or commenting on what has been made public. If this were not the case the Watchtower Society would sue everyone who quoted their past failed prophecies. No author would be able to use a single reference, and encyclopaedias would not exist.

Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania was established as a publishing company which charged for all its literature. Now that it now longer charges, in order to keep its charitable status, it is bound to diminish.
Who knows? One day it may attempt to establish itself as a religion! There is money in religion even without peddling books and magazines - if you know how to go about it. Can an old dog learn new tricks?

PSacramento As an observer your comments do not make you come across as self righteous. Rather they indicate that you strive to be a better person; the best you can be. Unlike an atheist with the same goal you believe that Christ can, through holy-spirit, help you to achieve your aim.

Your God asks for too much
by Qcmbr ini was wondering (again) about what i got out of my deal with mormon god.
the more i thought about it the more i realised that the xian god asks way too much and offers too little.. what does xg demand:.
1 - obedience to changeable often arbitrary commandments normally with little clarification of when and when not to apply them.

We do tend to create the God we think we deserve or at least the God we think exists based on HOW WE see things.
Very true. I have not yet succeeded in creating a god. Actually I quite like being free to make my own decisions. I already have a wife, so a god as well might be too much to cope with in one short life.

Ah! PSacramento. I do admire the good intention behind your faith.
The question for me is whether life has a purpose or is just a game of chance? Without a god it's all down to the roll of the dice.

Qcmbr All the points you raise are entirely accurate. They lead to the conclusion that this god is man’s invention; created in man’s own image in an incredibility successful attempt to establish authority to rule other humans. This is the god described in the bible and the Koran. Like a fake $100 bill it fools enough people to help holy men seize power and get rich.
Whether a real god exists is anyone’s guess. All I can personally say is that it has not been my pleasure to be contacted by such a being. As a younger man I attempted to contact and speak to such a being but my prayers fell on deaf or non-existent ears. Ah well! Life has other pleasures to offer.

What's with this obsession with being saved?
Better to die thoroughly spent and satisfied with days.

Who Do You Think The "Two Witnesses" In Revelation Are?
by ÁrbolesdeArabia inwho is to say the "two witnesses" from revelation are not symbolic?
when we are dealing with revelation how can anyone as wrong as the watchtower society be so dogmatic about doctrines when it's been shown jesus christ has not revealed the "secrets that would be hidden until the last days"?
for all i know, my opinion on this matter is as good as anyone elses opinion.

Best to chase up the smoking caterpillar theory.

Are you still on a self improvement quest?
by Monsieur inon another thread i asked about this life being all there is.
if so, what would you consider important to have done or accomplished before you die so that 'your time alive' would not have been a total waste?.
if you haven't done it, or accomplished it, are you currently on a quest to do so?

jgnat I have a mind that is equally creative and logical, so I have an unusual mix of abilities.
Yes, I have seen your painting and read many of your posts and that comes across.
As to being on an improvement quest, I guess I spent many years on that highway. Talent can be improved by effort and practice. Genuine improvement as people happens or it doesn’t, it cannot be forced. Now I find that if we concentrate on being content and kind to others the rest will fall into place.
